Week 4- Sports Breakdown
In the video "Making it Matter: Lessons from Real Sports" (MInute 6:26) he brings up a very interesting point. He was saying that in sports when we break them down the players are actually characters. and that these characters actually entertain and establish themselves as crowd or popular favorites. this really took me because I've never thought of it like that. and I suppose looking at it in this sense helps in the breakdown. for example in class going over the sports and turning them into games I noticed that taking this popular person and turning them into a game character was easier to do when they had personality.
It is hard to simulate in the video "Making it Matter: Lessons from Real Sports" (MInute 22:15) he brings up the challenges of emulating a sports game. Specifically the crowd aspect. How do you get that realism that in whatever sports game you play thousands of fans cheer and want to see you succeed. I didn't think of this as a sports game player myself its hard to get that feeling. He gave off using real people for tournaments or using ai generated NPCs to do the job. But I think it still doesn't hit the mark. However, to spin off of this in class as well i found it one of the hardest things to try and find this in board game form. I understand the difficulty because when breaking down volleyball or rugby the crowd is so cool but the element is too hard to create.
I chose the video “Rugby Rules and Regulations Explained: How to Play RUGBY: RUGBY” This video had me look at the sport of rugby. I have always been interested since it is the father of American football. In the video we looked at the scrum or lineout(minute 1:35)this was my most fascinating rule of the game. It is interesting as a sports fan the coordination and teamwork that goes into this. All pieces must be moving in order to make a great play. This was the element I wanted to bring to a game but I found it was too hard for the restraints we had. I wanted to keep the game of choice simple. Due to the multi-level moving parts and the live sports aspect, I found it hard to break down.
